Backgrounds - Ink Pad Drag

Ink Pad Drag.  I saw this technique on the SU Demonstrator's Stampin Connect web site.  I loved it and when I found out how easy it was, I just had to share.

A taste of Christmas
A Crafty Cat: Stampin' Up! Christmas cards with Dasher stamped in Choc Chip on a Lucky Limade Ink Pad Drag.
This is FUN!
A little one for love...
A Crafty Cat: Stampin' Up! cards of Love, I used Pool Party ink pad for the drag and stamped
the Stampin' Up! set You are Loved  in Island Indigo
Sale-A-Bration is my favourite time of the year...and in 2013 Feeling Sentimental was and still  is my favourite stamp set. This is why
A Crafty Cat: Stampin' Up!  Mellon Mambo with Razzleberry
A Crafty Cat: Stampin' Up! Marina Mist and Early Expresso

Materials :-
Whisper white card stock, Ink pad and stamp set
Method:-
Step 1 Open ink pad
Step 2 Drag ink pad over paper in one flowing motion
Step 3 Stamp or Powder Emboss image of your choice on background
Step 4 Cut card stock to size and assemble project.

You may need to practice a couple of times before you do it on your card because each time you stop or slow your motion, you get a line (as you can see on the card above).  This is a nice background and so quick and easy to achieve.

Stampin' spots are effective too.  I used a garden green spot randomly stamped to create this background...
A Crafty Cat: Stampin' Up! Button Buddies

Stampin' Up! Button Buddies is a darling set that contains this very cute snail which co-ordinates purrrfectly with Stampin' Up! buttons.  I love this card, my son does too.  So have a play using your ink pads and let me know how you go.

Ink pad drag backgrounds, I hope you like this quick and easy effect.
Happy craftying xx

Backgrounds - Polished Stone

This is a lovley marbled effect for a background.  The blending and various tones of colour, one can achieve, are magical and this background is one I personally like to emboss images onto.

Upsy Diasy powder embossed in white and mounted on Not Quite Navy, Marina Mist (embossed in Vintage Wallpaper 120175) and Crumb Cake

Materials :-
glossy card stock, one or two re-inkers for the backgound, shimmer paint, Rubbing Alcohol, cotton balls and stamp set
Method:-
Step 1 Wet cotton ball liberally with rubbing alcohol

Step 2 dot re-inkers on cotton ball with a couple of small drops of shimmer paint (I use a tooth pick to dot the paint onto the cotton ball)
Step 3 randomly dab the cotton ball over the card stock
Step 4 with a twisting motion randomly dab over the card filling in the white areas until you get the desired effect
Step 5 stamp or emboss image onto background once card is dry
Step 6 cut card to size and assemble project.

The shimmer paint gives the background a mica fleck and a shimmer all over.  I just love using the SU shimmer paints and any colour works well.

Sense of Time is another purrrfect stamp set to use with this technique.  The colours used here were Perfect Plum, More Mustard and Pumpkin Pie with one being a lot darker than the other...

This is such an effective background, I hope you enjoy trying it out.  I sure will be using it again.
Thanks for stopping by, happy crafting,

Backgrounds - Salt

Salted background is a technique I have been eager to try for years and my catalogue launch last year was the excuse.  To create this effective background I chose a stamp set and colours for a background to compliment this stamp set, e.g. for the Zebra, Giraffe and Lion from Zoo Review, I wanted a dry look so yellows, oranges and a shot of green were chosen to give the following effect....

I highlighted the main of the Lion and spots on the Giraffe with gold smooch...NICE...
I changed my brush strokes of colour from diagonal above to horizontal squiggles to give the following end result...

and for the Penguin blues were a must....

To create this wonderful background, this is how you do it

Materials :-
glossy card stock, re-inkers for the chosen colours, aqua pen, mister or spray of some sort, coarse salt and salt in a grinder - straight from your kitchen, versamark and embossing powder (I used black), heat gun and rag/tissue
Method:-
Step 1 dot re-inkers on plate or ink pad lid
Step 2 spray glossy card liberally with water- or use paint brush
Step 3 pick up ink with a wet aqua pen and scribble this over your card
Step 4 continue this with other inks of your choice and respray with mister as necessary
Step 5 sprinkle coarse salt over project and then dust with salt from grinder or use table salt
Step 6 allow project to dry - either air dry or dry with heat gun.
Step 7 using a rag or tissue or alike polish salt crystals from your card.
Step 8 Emboss or stamp your image on the card - I found that embossing gave added dimension and depth to the image and finished card.
Step 9 Cut card to size and assemble your project.

The Dinosaurs called for wild skies of orange and blue with greenery under foot.

I added depth of colour to the dinosaurs by colouring them with like markers.
Creating your own backgrounds are fun and you can get a wonderful range of looks just by using different size salt crystals.  Experiment and enjoy your creations.

Backgrounds - Shaving cream

Shaving Cream is a wonderful medium to carry ink.  The backgrounds of these cards are very different but use the same technique.  So go to Dad's or Hubby's cupboard and spray onto a plate some of the shaving cream and discover the world of mixing colour in a fun medium.

Choc chip and Peach Parfait reinkers made a great background for this young boy card.

Dasher, I love Dasher.  I used Tempting turquoise re-inker and stamped with Island Indigo for contrast.

Materials :-
Whisper white card stock, re-inkers for the chosen colours, a open container - plate or small baking tray, scewer or alike, and rag/tissue
Method:-
Step 1 Shake shaving cream and spray onto open container - spread evenly with knife or spatula
Step 2 drop re-inker colours randomly onto shaving cream
Step 3 using your scewer scribble through the inks to make patterns in the shaving cream
Step 4 lay your paper over the cream and gently press to pick up ink from the cream
Step 5 peel the paper back and leave for a minute or two
Step 6 use a rag or tissue or alike and dab the excess shaving cream from your card.
Step 7 allow to dry
Step 8 stamp or emboss image onto card
Step 9 cut cardstock to size and assemble project

This is another great project you can do with the kids - and you might love it too.  To the ladies that attended the background techniques workshop, I hope you enjoyed learning how to do the eight backgrounds I have now posted on my blog.  To those that wanted to come but could not, I hope this inspires you to give it a go and call or e-mail me if you have any questions.

Spinner Card

What fun you can have with a spinner card.  I chose to have my flower spinning across the card, but you can choose a fish, butterfly, bee, seasame street character or whatever you like to spin across your card.  You know what, this is sooo easy to achieve if you have 2 small coins, dimensionals and a window punch.

The colours were inspired by an outfit I purchased my mother inlaw for her Birthday. I have always wanted to make a spinner card, so I made the card to compliment the Birthday gift.

You-tube is the most wonderful resource as I have mentioned before, and this is the link to You Tube so you can see how to make a spinner card.

I hope you have fun making your card
