Disney Planes Birthday Party - Cloud capped mountain cupcakes

Disney Planes and Planes Fire and Rescue was the theme for my son's 5th Birthday Celebration. My Son is Gluten intolerant and this post shows you how to create yummy gluten free, dressed up cupcakes presented as "cloud capped mountains" The cake servers were labelled - this server: Piston Peaks and these were Gluten Free carrot cakes topped with Cream Cheese/Philly Cheese icing.

The second cake server had Propwash Muddy Mountains and these were Gluten Free Chocolate cakes.

Chocolate Gluten Free, Flour Free Cake Recipe, one of our FAVOURITES
Ingredients
1/3 cup Organic Cacao
1/3 cup Hot water
200g Organic Dark Chocolate - the better the quality the better the outcome
120g Organic Butter soft
1 1/3 cup Rapadura or brown sugar
3/4 cup Organic Almond meal
1/4 cup Hazelnut meal
4 Organic eggs separated

Method
Blend Cacao in hot water until smooth in one bowl
Melt chocolate and butter together in a double boiler
To cacao and water, add melted chocolate, butter, sugar, nut meal and egg yolks; Mix well
In a separate bowl beat egg whites until soft peaks form and gradually fold this into the chocolate mixture.
Pour mixture into lined and greased cake tin - we use a square because this is rich or in this case, patty cake papers/ cup cake liners.
Bake at 140oC or until skewer comes out clean.  These do not rise much at all, so fill them to 1/4 inch from the cup cake liner top. Cooking time is approx. 25-30minutes.

The cakes were topped with circles of sky blue fondant and butter icing was pipped on top for the clouds.  Ben took off the sky of blue, cloud and Fondant planes I created and just ate the cakes.  As far as he was concerned it was all part of the decorations and not for eating ;-)...

Disney Planes Birthday Party - Popcorn containers and Little Dippers

My son's 5th Birthday party was themed Disney Planes and thanks to Pinterest we saw this great party idea for our pop corn clouds.  We had to add some planes and our little dippers for the adults to graze on sounded like a whole lot of fun...  I set to work on these special containers (Stampin' Up! Chip boxes dressed to character) inspired by Tonya and her movie night.  Lex and I made this collection late one night...

The containers were inspired from various posts on pinterest (check out my Pinterest Board) and created using a variety of Stampin' Up! Circle Punches and Window Punch.  I just drew, cut and coloured.

The little dippers were simply a large bun with the top cut off.  I then cut the top in half to make wings.  I dug out the centre of the bun and that was placed around the plane as clouds. I then cut a horizontal slit either side of the bun and pushed the wings into the slits - the body of the plane now had wings.  I surrounded the plane with the bread clouds and corn chips - wings...

The filling can be purchased and scooped into your little dippers or made as we did...

This was not a healthy choice but more for the adults to graze on and there were lots of comments on how cool they looked.

Disney Planes Birthday Party: the Drinks

Disney planes themed food was fun and easy thanks to the many ideas on Pinterest.  Ben is on a special diet, gluten, dairy and soy free.  All of his food needs to be organic and unprocessed.  I did include a few foods that broke these rules, but Ben did not indulge in these as he knows the consequence and we call these adult foods.

Drinks
Water is a must for all parties and for the adults punch/Jet Fuel was the request from those parents that attended last year.

The Jet Fuel recipe can be found HERE from last year's Birthday Celebration.

Disney Planes Birthday Party: the Props and Decorations; Ballons, Banners, Signage and Mobiles

Disney Planes and Disney Planes Fire and Rescue is a great theme for decorating a party.  We turned the entrance of the yard into a metal detector with a welcome sign. Here I decorated with Disney planes coloured streamers, a runway of black hessian and a cardboard box decorated to look like El Chupacabra.

We used a number of themed Banners and themed scene setters thanks to Birthday in a Box WHO ship to Australia! Large happy birthday banner was suspended between two columns on the front of the house.  Mobiles hung behind the birthday banner and were sourced as a PDF from Lovebugs&postcards.  It was a game but I turned it into a mobile or two ;-) .

The mobiles were of Planes characters and the Smoke Jumpers...can you see these little fellows?

The food for the Birthday Celebration was inspired by the pins on Pinterest.  Together Ben and I planned all of the different foods we could have that would be Plane themed.  The table was dressed in pale blue with Disney Planes back drop, purchased for Birthday in a Box.  This was the dining area, before the yummies came out...

The signs (Etsy), cake toppers & candles were purchased from Birthday in a Box USA and Character Parties Supplies Qld.  Food labels are always fun and this was made easy thanks to Hi my fiesta in English and Etsy...

Balloons are a wow way to decorate, lots of colour and easy to assemble.  The balloons were purchased from e-bay Garry Gooda and Character Parties Wynnum Qld. We filled them ourselves thanks to Spotlights hiring of Helium gas cylinders. There were lots of themed foil balloons and these were complimented with themed cloud balloons, orange dusty balloons and pale blue balloons.  These were suspended from the Dining area, drinks table, cubby and present table...

Disney Planes Birthday Party: the School Celebration

Ben loves to craft and one activity we were unable to squeeze in at his party was the making of each child's own planes out of pegs.  I saved this activity for his School Celebration.  I gave all of the supplies and instructions to the teacher and on craft afternoon each child was shown the prototypes and they made their own peg planes.  I received many thank you's from the kids that afternoon, I could not believe it - who says kids want cake to celebrate!  you should have seen these kids fly their planes all over the playground and yes including the girls.  It was a wonderful success and Ben was feeling very proud.

The kids made their favourite character but instead of using paint to paint the pegs they used crayon :-(  They loved their creations and flew them across the play ground when school was out.  It was awesome to see. The idea came from Pinterest and The Night Owl check out Kimberly's instructions - we used PVA glue instead of a hot glue gun.

Enjoy crafting with your children,
