Owl Punch Art - Tulips

It amazes me what people make, and this is very clever.  The owl punch is by far our most versatile punch and these cards remind me of how much I not only love tulips, but making them is very simple and rewarding.  There are a couple of ways to make the tulips - some very basic methods, to a method or two that is a little more complex.....

This is as basic as it gets, but on a background of layers, the simple owl with the feet cut off and a small amount of sponging, looks great !


Perfect Plum, Daffodil Delight, Wild Wasabi and Bashful Blue are the colours used in this layout.

For the next look, punch out the owl and trim off the legs, then with your scallop border punch, scallop circle or scallop square punch, trim off the top of the owl's ears. Thanks to Addicted to stamping  for this idea. Add a little dimension by sponging the tulips and ....


Lucky Limade is the backing card with a strip of Daffodil Delight and Perfect Plum DSP.  Bashful Blue DSP is cut with the top note die and the tulips were punched in Perfect Plum and Daffodil Delight.

Closer so you can see the layering...

If you choose to use 2 owls to make a tulip, this is what you can achieve.  Two more petals are achieved by cutting one of the owls (with his feet cut off) in half and fanning it on the back of the body (so the ears are showing out) of the tulip/owl.  Add a bit of veination with a SU Marker, sponge a little and there you have it ... wow.  The leaves are hand cut simply by folding a scrap in half and cutting them to shape. 

Rich razzleberry base card, with whisper white embossed with Framed Tulips (121809).  The tulips are punched form rich razzleberry and the leaves are cut from wild wasabi

Then you can take it to the next step and depending if you have the old small oval punch that is now retired or a good eye and hand for cutting, you can achieve this by watching this video by Jackie Topia... or by watching the amazing paper flower expert Valita Designs and Fresh Folds.   It is the sponging that makes the flowers what they are.


The base card is pink pirouette, the topnote is cut from bashful blue DSP and the tulips are punched out of blushing bride and sponged with melon mambo.  The leaves are cut from wild wasabi.

Top Note Die - Cards

I wanted to make something a little bit fancy LOL, always a challenge for me.  I follow a blog Stamp with Tam and she had this sketch up from "try stampin on Tuesdays #56,

so I played along as I wanted a few card samples using our fabulous top note die.
This is what I made - nice and simpleManhatton Rose with the rose highlighted by using the SU marker on its side to enable the colour to bleed onto the raised sections of the card.

Then I fancied it up a little...

114517 Manhatton Rose Embossing Folder on confetti white, coloured with a real red marker. Base card is real red to match.

Then I started to play....

I used 119277 Elegant Lines embossing folder on Lucky Limade and Cajuan Craze.  The flower and butterfly are Embosslit Dies from SU 114515 Flower Burst and 118138 Beautiful Wings

 Then I started to surf and found this on Lyn Pratt's blog - how cool is this!

Cream Confetti and one of our current in colours Poppy Parade is the cardstock featured in this card along with the stamp set 124976 (WM) Field Flowers

Then something OLD, (old being old DSP). I made this several months ago, using the Top Note die and scraps of paper.  The flower is a combination of stacking two flowers from 121812 Fun flowers and 115971 Blossom Party.   The brad from our sale-a-bration brad and ribbon pack.
